APAC acknowledges with sadness the passing of Professor Alison Garton, a former member of the APAC Board of Directors, a long-serving Chair of the Accreditation Assessment Committee (AAC), and Assessor.
Across 20 years of service, Alison made a significant contribution to APAC’s work and to the quality and integrity of psychology education and training in Australia. Through her numerous roles, Alison helped shape important aspects of APAC’s accreditation activity, organisational development, and governance, including leading the AAC through the Covid-19 pandemic, introducing new Accreditation Standards and strengthening APAC’s relationships with the higher education sector.
Alison was known for her thoughtful judgment and vast professional expertise, with colleagues past and present recognising her longstanding commitment to excellence and steady leadership. Her contribution to APAC was reflected not only in the roles she held, but in the time, care, and leadership she brought to APAC over many years.
“At APAC, we are reminded that our work is strengthened by the people who contribute their expertise to it – Board members, committee members, assessors, and staff alike. Alison’s passing is a reminder of the lasting value of those contributions and the importance of recognising them with respect and gratitude, both during service and beyond. Each contribution matters, and each leaves its mark”, said Adjunct Professor John Dunn, Chair of the APAC Board.
“We extend our sincerest condolences to Alison’s family, friends and colleagues, and remember with appreciation the impact she has made to APAC and to the profession.
