The Australian Psychology Accreditation Council (APAC) is inviting expressions of interest from experienced professionals to join our Accreditation Assessment Committee (AAC), which provides expert oversight of psychology program accreditation under the Health Practitioner Regulation National Law Act 2009 (National Law).

About the AAC

The AAC is a standing committee of the APAC Board and is composed of experienced and trained accreditation assessors who provide expertise in psychology practice, education and training. It considers matters relating to the accreditation and monitoring of psychology programs of study to uphold the quality and integrity of psychology education and training, while ensuring graduates are equipped with the competencies required for safe, effective and contemporary professional practice.

The committee also advises the APAC Board on issues relating to teaching, learning and competence in psychology, and supports the continuous review and enhancement of accreditation standards and processes.

About the role

AAC members contribute to accreditation assessments, make or recommend accreditation decisions, and support the ongoing review of accreditation standards and related policies. Members are appointed for a term of up to three years and are remunerated for their work, with all travel expenses covered.

Members are typically involved in the following:

  • Act as Team Leader for the conduct of accreditation assessments, including virtual and onsite site visits for initial accreditation, reaccreditation, complaint investigation and monitoring
  • Make accreditation decisions for accreditation and accreditation with conditions
  • Recommend accreditation decisions to the APAC Board for accreditation refused or accreditation revoked
  • Support the review of Accreditation Standards, Evidence Guide, rules for accreditation and assessment-related policies as necessary
  • Provide advice and support on any other industry, professional or ancillary matters related to the above.

The AAC meets eight times per year, combining virtual meetings with one in-person meeting annually at APAC’s office in Naarm (Melbourne).
