Request an Accreditation Status Check
For students
What is an Accreditation Status Check?
APAC publishes information about accredited psychology programs, including currently accredited programs, programs in teach-out and recently discontinued programs, through our ‘Search for an accredited program’ tool.
An Accreditation Status Check is only required where you need confirmation of the accreditation status of an Australian psychology program at a specified point in time – and where that information is no longer available through the tool.
In the first instance, students can normally contact the education provider where the psychology program was completed for verification of APAC’s accreditation status.
Please note, APAC provides the outcome of an Accreditation Status Check by email and does not issue a separate confirmation letter.
Before Requesting an Accreditation Status Check
Please review whether any of the following applies to you:
Is your program listed on APAC’s website?
If your program appears in the ‘Search for an accredited program’ tool, you do not need to request an Accreditation Status Check.
This search includes currently accredited programs, programs in teach-out and recently discontinued programs.
Did you complete an overseas qualification?
APAC does not assess or provide Accreditation Status Checks for overseas qualifications completed outside the scope of APAC-accredited Australian higher education programs.
The Australian Psychological Society (APS) is the national assessment authority for overseas academic qualifications in psychology, covering skilled migration, entry into APAC-accredited programs of study and general employment.
The Psychology Board of Australia (PsyBA) will assess overseas skills and qualifications for registration as a psychologist in Australia.
Is your program no longer listed?
If you have searched for your program and it is no longer available through APAC’s ‘Search for an accredited program’ tool, you may be able to request an Accreditation Status Check.
This service enables APAC to confirm whether a program of study was APAC accredited at a specific point in time.
Is your qualification more than ten years old?
If you completed your program of study more than 10 years ago, and are requesting an Accreditation Status Check for registration purposes, please review the Psychology Board of Australia (PsyBA) registration standard for provisional registration before purchasing this service.
An Accreditation Status Check confirms a program’s accreditation status only and does not determine your eligibility for registration.
Fees
Accreditation Status Checks are a paid service. The fee depends on the age of the program information and the level of historical research required to verify its accreditation status.
Recent historical records can generally be verified through APAC’s existing records and attract a lower fee of $171.60.
Older records (spanning beyond 10 years) may require detailed review of archived information and, in some cases, verification with the relevant higher education provider, and therefore attract a higher fee of $400.40.
The applicable service will be determined from the program and study information you provide. You will be advised of the applicable service and fee before payment is requested.
Processing Your Request
To request an Accreditation Status Check, you will need to provide:
- Your contact details
- The name of the higher education provider
- The full name of the program as it appeared on your testamur or certificate
- The relevant year or years of study and completion; and
- A clear copy of your academic transcript and grades.
APAC will begin processing your request once (i) all required information has been provided and (ii) payment of the applicable fee has been received.
Where required, APAC may need to confirm historical information with the relevant higher education provider. You will be asked to provide consent for APAC to do so as part of the request.
Please allow up to 5 business days for a response to your Academic Status Check. Please note, historical records may take longer due to additional research or verification with the relevant higher education provider being required. You will be kept informed if this is applicable to your request.
